HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL

Toksika operates a hazardous waste landfill. It is the first and only hazardous waste landfill in Lithuania with a waste stabilisation bar, stabilisation technologies and all the necessary infrastructure to safely dispose of hazardous waste generated in Lithuania. The landfill was built at the Šiauliai branch of Toksika, as part of the EU project “Construction of a landfill for hazardous waste”. The operation of the hazardous waste landfill is strictly regulated by Lithuanian legislation. Only hazardous waste that cannot be treated in alternative ways, i.e. that cannot be technologically sorted, recycled or otherwise treated, can be disposed of in the landfill. The landfill has a capacity of 9,000 tonnes of hazardous waste per year.

Residual waste resulting from incineration processes (bottom ash and slag; solid waste from gas cleaning) is also disposed of in the landfill. All of the above hazardous waste is safely collected and disposed of avoiding contaminating the environment and surface, soil and groundwater with various chemicals and heavy metals.
